Qatar is urging the international community to enhance cooperation in order to accelerate sustainable development and achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This call was made by Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, during a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative held in New York.

Al Misnad emphasized the pressing challenges that developing countries face, which include financial and debt burdens, food insecurity, climate change impacts, energy insecurity, and the digital divide. She stressed that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for ensuring long-term peace, stability, and prosperity across the globe.

To address these challenges, Qatar is advocating for increased international efforts to bridge the development financing gap and boost resources available to developing nations, especially those classified as the least developed. The country also called for stronger commitments to development finance and climate action, along with necessary reforms to the international financial system to better support these countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Al Misnad also pointed out the potential benefits of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in supporting sustainable development. However, she warned that disparities in access to technology and expertise could exacerbate existing inequalities. Thus, Qatar is calling for enhanced cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills.

Reaffirming its dedication to sustainable development, Qatar highlighted its National Vision 2030 and various international partnerships. The country underscored its initiatives aimed at poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and building resilience in vulnerable countries, demonstrating its commitment to supporting global sustainable development efforts.
